Gavin Pretor-Pinney
Author of ‘The Cloudspotter's Guide’
Profile:
Gavin Pretor-Pinney founded the Cloud Appreciation Society in 2004 to fight 'blue-sky thinking'.
He feels that clouds are one of the most beautiful and varied of nature's displays, and that it is high time that we in Britain stopped complaining about them so much. The society now numbers well over 13,000 members, who are based in 64 countries around the world.
Initially, 26 publishers turned down Gavin's book, The Cloudspotter’s Guide. When it eventually came out in 2006, it immediately became an international bestseller, and was published in fifteen different translations.
Gavin also co-founded The Idler, a magazine dedicated to the pursuit of an idle life.
What I'm talking about:
Cloudspotting For Beginners
I will give an introduction to cloudspotting. I will teach you to identify some of the basic cloud types, as well as encourage you to lie back, let your imagination drift, and notice that one over there looks like a goldfish.
